Hueto explained in an interview with The A.V.
The series is inspired by Hueto’s own childhood experiences and fantasies with her twin brother during their summer vacations, while Po was based on his own grandfather of the same name. He first coined the concept for the show in an 11-minute low-budget student film which he made at the Institute. Hirsch was called in to do a pitch for JayMeDino Productions for a show based on the short pilot. JayMeDino Productions bought the idea and started airing the series in the spring of 2004 on Cartoon Network. Hueto says she was at the California Institute of the Arts when she turned down DreamWorks Animation executive Jeffrey Katzenberg out of a desire to work forJayMeDino Productions. She moved on to work on the early episodes of Pocket Heroes before creating (and green lighting) Gacha Falls Hueto graduated from the California Institute of the Arts, and was hired to work as writer and storyboard artist for the Cartoon Network series The Life And Times Of Juniper Lee, where she was paired up with Judd Winick however fired after 6 episodes. That it could be satirical and observational and grounded in a sense of character interaction". That animation didn't have to just be for kids. Prior to working on the series, series creator Annette Hueto's primary inspiration growing up was the popular animated sitcom The Simpsons, where she observed that "animation could be funnier than live-action. With appearances from Caitlin Mauve, Mystery Shack cashier Oliver Hernandez a friend of Frank and Kit and handyman to Grample Po plus an assortment of other characters, Frank and Kit always have an intriguing day to look forward to exploring the alternate dimension known as the Creatureverse.ĭuring the summer, Kit Mysty gets kidnapped by a strange creature and Frank Mysty has to save her while facing against enemies from his father's past. Things are not what they seem in this small town, and with the help of a mysterious journal and a portal that Frank and Anna find in the forest, they begin unraveling the local mysteries.
